Acapulco Open: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Alexander Zverev 3/20/21 Tennis Prediction

Top seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece will face second seed Alexander Zverev of Germany in the Final of the 2021 Acapulco Open in Mexico. The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday March 20th, 2021 at 11:00pm EST. 

Who will win this clash of the top two seeds? These two were expected to reach the Final here at the 2021 Acapulco Open and both did so in dominant fashion. They are both in fantastic form, and seeking their first title of the year. Regardless of the outcome it is sure to be an extremely exciting match between two of the best players in the world. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been having a great year, with very solid results. He has breezed through this draw for the most part, only being tested by Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Quarter-Finals. In the Semis, he brushed aside the challenge of the young “giant-killer” Lorenzo Musetti in dominant fashion, not being broken and winning over 80% of his first serve points. He has taken his tennis and mental game to new heights this season, and has firmly established himself as a serious threat in every single tournament he plays. He enters this match as the slight favorite and will be very confident of winning here. 

Alexander Zverev is seeded #2 here at the 2021 Acapulco Open, and has been in even more impressive form than his Greek opponent. He is yet to lose a set here, and has thrashed all opponents that he has faced. In the Semi-Finals, he defeated Dominik Koepfer 6-4, 7-6. While the scoreline was close, it was a good test for him and he handled his nerves well on important points, something that has been an issue for him throughout his career. While he is the underdog here, he has built up some serious momentum and cannot be discounted. 

This is a very even match on paper, with both players similarly ranked and in good form. However, I am giving the edge to Stefanos Tsitsipas here. He holds an overwhelming 5-1 head to head record over Alexander Zverev and that will swing the mental battle his way. Zverev has been in great form and definitely has a good chance here, but Tsitsipas has that extra gear that he does not quite have, and I expect him to win a close three set match.
