Atalanta is hosting Genoa at Gewiss Stadium in round 29 of the Italian Serie A. Atalanta has beaten Leverkusen in the Europa League earlier this week, but they have been shaky in the Serie A. Genoa is on a 6-game draw streak, which is better than a loss I suppose.
Atalanta has won 3 of their last 4 games, and luckily for them, they are still in the top 5, in 5th place with 47 points. The bad thing for Atalanta is that they have a few teams on their tail, and they could lose this spot if they don’t win games consistently. The schedule is not getting any easier for Atalanta unfortunately, and because of their consistency problem throughout the entire season, it might cost them a lot. Even with their inconsistency problems, Atalanta is one of the best offensive teams in the league with 50 scored goals, but their defense is not nearly as good with 31 conceded goals. Zapata and Pasalic have each scored 9 goals for Atalanta, but Zapata is injured alongside Ilicic. Pasalic has also added 4 assists. With the Europa League game ahead next week once again, Atalanta has to stay in good form, they need to keep playing well, but we will see if they can.
As I’ve mentioned, Genoa is on a big draw streak, while they haven’t won any of their last 12 games. Even though they haven’t lost any of their last 6 games, they are still in the relegation zone, in 19th place with 18 points, which is 7 points away from safety. Genoa is not doing well on either end, and they have scored only 22 goals so far this season while conceding 47 goals in 28 games. Injuries are a big problem for Genoa, and that was in part a problem for their form this season. some of their best players are injured, and we can see they are missing them a lot. Destro is the leading goalscorer for Genoa with 9 goals. There is not much more we can say about Genoa, but the season is not yet done, I’m sure they will not give up until the very end.
Atalanta is a much better team here, they are scoring a lot more goals, and their defense is also much better. I will side with Atalanta despite them playing earlier this week, and despite them playing in the Europa League next week as well.
