The Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees meet Tuesday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Monday opener, the Guardians eked out a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians played the Red Sox over the weekend, winning Friday 5-2 before losses 8-7 Saturday and 7-1 Sunday. In the Monday matchup versus New York, Cleveland came back from a 2-0 deficit (thanks mostly to a pair of Josh Naylor RBI) with a trio of runs in the ninth inning during a 3-2 win.
As the starter for the Tuesday game the Guardians will go with Tanner Bibee. In the first start of his career Bibee did well, bagging a win with 5.2 innings, eight Ks, no walks and six hits against Colorado.
New York Yankees
The Yankees played miserably over the weekend, losing three of four to the Rangers by a combined score of 24-8. On Monday New York wasted a great outing from Domingo German in the defeat. German put up 8.1 frames with two hits, one earned, one walk and six strikeouts.
Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Yankees on Tuesday. Over his six starts so far Cole is 5-0 with a 1.11 ERA and 44 Ks in 40.2 innings. Cole has a career record of 135-71 with a 3.18 ERA over 273 career starts.
The Guardians are 0-7 in their last seven Tuesday games and 0-4 in their last four in game two of a series. The under is 5-1-1 in Cleveland’s last seven Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, New York is 62-25 in their last 87 versus the AL Central and 39-17 in their last 56 Tuesday games. The Yankees are 73-35 in their last 108 in game two of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m staying with the Yankees, but probably not going near it. Cole is one of the bright spots for New York this year. In his last three starts combined, Cole is 2-0 with two earned on 12 hits and four walks over 21.1 frames total. It’ll be interesting to see what Bibee can do against this Yankee lineup as well; we should have a fun starter matchup. On Monday New York had a relatively paltry six hits and two errors, however they were still in great position late in the game. I’m still leaning New York, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see some hangover from that rough loss in game two.
