The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago White Sox meet Tuesday in MLB doubleheader action from Guaranteed Rate Field. We were originally going to have a game Monday evening, but that opener was postponed due to a forecast of high winds and cold temperatures. Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies took on the Reds over the weekend, taking two of the four games for a split. Philadelphia won Friday 8-3 and Sunday 14-3. The losses came 6-2 on Thursday and 13-0 on Saturday.
For the starter job in the Tuesday game one matchup the Phillies will send out Zack Wheeler. This year Wheeler is 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA and 18 Ks.
As for game two, it’ll be Bailey Falter. In his three starts so far Falter is 0-2 with a 4.80 ERA and nine Ks in 15.0 innings. Falter is 8-7 with a 4.41 ERA in 45 career games (20 starts).
Chicago White Sox
Over on the White Sox side, they lost two of three games to the Orioles over the weekend. Chicago managed a 7-6 win on Saturday but lost 6-3 Friday and 8-4 on Sunday in the finale otherwise.
Starter for game one on Tuesday will be Lance Lynn. So far Lynn is 0-1 with a 7.31 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
It’ll be Lucas Giolito in the starter role for the Sox in game two. In his three starts so far Giolito is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA. He’s got 16 Ks in 15.0 innings. Giolito is 53-48 in his MLB career with a 4.36 ERA over 150 games (148 starts).
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games and 6-13 in their last 19 overall. Philadelphia is 9-27 in their last 36 interleague road games.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 2-6 in their last eight Tuesday games and 4-12 in their last 16 at home. The over is 8-1-1 in Chicago’s last 10 in game two of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE GAME 1 PICK
I’ll take a stab on the Phillies here. Wheeler has posted 11.1 combined innings over his last two starts with just three earned on eight hits and six walks. As for Lynn, he posted three earned in 6.0 frames in Minnesota during his last start. Lynn had a rough outing versus the Giants recently however, so Philly will probably have some opportunities if all goes well.
ANDREW’S FREE GAME 2 PICK
I’m going to lean toward the White Sox in this one. We should have a pretty good matchup regardless, though. Giolito had a rough game April 7 versus the Pirates, giving up seven earned on 12 hits in 4.0 innings. He was able to bounce back in his last outing however, with 6.0 innings, one earned, five hits and a walk in a loss to Minnesota. I think Giolito will put the Sox in a good spot.
