San Francisco Giants

The Giants had a rough opener versus the Yankees, losing 5-0. San Francisco bounced back on Saturday with a 7-5 win, though. In the Sunday rubber match the Giants could only come up with three team hits in a 6-0 defeat. Starter Ross Stripling lasted 5.0 innings with four earned on six hits and two walks.

For the starter job in the Monday game the Giants will go with Anthony DeSclafani. In his five starts last year DeSclafani went 0-2 with a 6.63 ERA. Over 19.0 innings he had 17 Ks. Over his career, DeSclafani is 50-48 with a 4.12 ERA in 161 games (151 starts).

Chicago White Sox

Over on the Chicago side, they beat Houston 3-2 on Thursday but then fell 6-3 and 6-4 in the next pair. On Sunday the White Sox bagged two runs in the top of the ninth to cap a 6-3 victory. Starter Mike Clevinger lasted 5.0 clean frames with three hits and three walks.

Michael Kopech will take the mound for the Sox on Monday. Last year Kopech went 5-9 with a 3.54 ERA over 25 starts. In 119.1 innings he had 105 strikeouts. Kopech is 10-13 in his career with a 3.64 ERA over 73 games (33 starts).

The Giants are 13-5 in their last 18 overall and 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. The over is 4-1 in San Francisco’s last five Monday games.

Meanwhile, the Sox are 21-10 in the last 31 interleague games and 2-8 in their last 10 at home. The under is 4-0 in Chicago’s last four in game one of a series

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to stay with the White Sox here. Chicago got off to a rough defensive start this year against a good Astros team, giving up a combined 14 runs across the first three games. The good news is that the White Sox didn’t score too badly themselves (10 runs) during that time. On Sunday Chicago put up a pretty solid all-around offensive effort. The Sox ended up with 13 team hits, with five different players having at least two. The bullpen got a little shaky in the ninth inning, but overall the pitching was quality as well. Another good team outing like that and the Sox will be in fine form here.

Andrew's Free Pick: Chicago White Sox -135
