The San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers meet Sunday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. The Tigers took a two-run win in the Friday opener, then on Saturday Detroit kept it going with a one-run walk-off victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants had a lead in the 11th inning of the Friday opener in this series, but gave up three runs from there in a 7-5 loss. On Saturday San Francisco blew an early lead and ended up losing 7-6. Anthony DeSclafani put up 6.2 innings in the start with two earned on six hits.

Starter for the Sunday game will be the Giants’ Logan Webb. In his three starts so far this year Webb is 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA and 22 Ks in 17.0 innings Webb is 31-22 in his career with a 3.53 ERA in 83 games (80 starts).

Detroit Tigers

Over on the Tigers’ side, they got the walk-off extra-innings win Friday thanks to a Nick Maton homer. On Saturday Detroit got another walk-off extra-innings win, this time courtesy of a Miguel Cabrera single. Starter Michael Lorenzen lasted 4.0 innings with six earned on eight hits and two walks.

Matthew Boyd will make the start for the Tigers on Sunday. In his first two starts this year Boyd is 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in 9.0 total innings. He’s 39-63 with a 4.89 ERA over 161 games (147 starts) in his career.

The Giants are 7-2 in their last nine in game three of a series and 9-3 in their last 12 Sunday games. San Francisco is 3-8 in their last 11 interleague road games.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 22-45 in their last 67 versus a right-handed starter and 27-56 in their last 83 Sunday games. Detroit is 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I might take a stab on Detroit here. Boyd is coming off 4.2 innings with two earned on five hits and four walks versus Boston on April 9. He hasn’t made it through five innings yet, but he’s got a good shot at doing that here. As for Webb, he put up a much-needed quality performance in his last game (one earned in 6.0 frames) but still took the loss. On Saturday the Tigers were down early but to their credit the offense woke up late in the game and took advantage of a Giants lull. I think Detroit has a good chance at another win in the finale.
