The Baltimore Orioles and the Texas Rangers meet Tuesday in MLB action from Globe Life Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Monday opener, Baltimore bagged a shutout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles’ season began with a series versus the Red Sox. Baltimore lost two of three in that set. On Monday versus Texas, the O’s out-hit the Rangers 4-1 in a 2-0 victory. Tyler Wells did most of the pitching work on 5.0 clean innings, no hits, no walks and two Ks.
Starter for the Tuesday game will be Baltimore’s Tyler Wells. Over his 23 starts last year Wells went 7-7 with a 4.25 ERA. In 103.2 innings he had 76 strikeouts. Wells has a 9-10 career record with a 4.20 ERA over 67 games (23 starts).
Texas Rangers
Over on the Texas side, their first series was versus the Phillies. The Rangers managed a sweep in that matchup. On Monday Texas couldn’t get anything going offensively in the loss. Josh Jung had the lone hit, and Jon Gray lasted 6.1 frames with two earned on four hits and two walks.
Starting for the Rangers on Tuesday will be Andrew Heaney. In 16 games (14 starts) last season Heaney went 4-4 with a 3.10 ERA. In 72.2 innings he managed 110 Ks. Heaney holds a 4.56 ERA with a 36-42 record over his career in 137 games (126 starts).
The Orioles are 16-5 in their last 21 versus the AL West and 9-3 in their last 12 Tuesday games. Baltimore is 2-5 in their last seven in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 4-10 in their last 14 Tuesday games and 13-39 in their last 52 versus the AL East. Texas is 2-8 in their last 10 in game two of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with the Rangers here. Texas was quite impressive in their opener series versus the Phillies, posting a whopping 27 runs in the first two games alone. (Sunday’s finale was a much more modest 2-1 finish.) On Monday, the Rangers offense posted a dud in the face of a nice all-around pitching performance from the Orioles. It was a much-needed showing after Baltimore gave up nine runs in each of their first three games. That said, I like Texas to bounce back in this one and post a victory.
