The Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Wednesday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Phillies took a blowout win in the opener, then on Tuesday Miami evened it up with a four-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins couldn’t get much going on nine team hits in the Monday opener of this series, losing 15-3. In Tuesday’s matchup, Miami bagged 14 team hits on the way to an 8-4 victory. Starter Jesus Luzardo put up 6.0 innings with three earned on eight hits and a walk.
For the starter gig in the Wednesday game, the Marlins are going with Edward Cabrera. Over his two starts so far, Cabrera is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA. In 6.2 innings he has six strikeouts. Cabrera is 6-8 with a 3.87 ERA in 23 career starts.
Philadelphia Phillies
Over on the Philadelphia side, they posted a whopping 20 team hits in the Monday blowout victory. On Tuesday the Phillies had 11 hits in the loss and got close in the sixth with a three-run inning. Aaron Nola went 5.2 innings with four earned on nine hits in the starting role.
Zack Wheeler will make the start for the Phillies on Wednesday. Over his pair of starts this year Wheeler is 0-1 with a 5.59 ERA and 12 Ks in 9.2 frames. Wheeler holds a career record of 74-58 with a 3.44 ERA in 197 starts.
The Marlins are 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series and 12-32 in their last 44 versus the NL East. Miami is 2-8 in their last 10 Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 35-17 in their last 52 at home and 3-8 in their last 11 in game three of a series. Philly is 0-6 in their last six Wednesday games.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with the Phillies here. Also probably not touching it, though; the line’s too thick to mess with. Cabrera hasn’t gone past 4.0 innings in either of his starts yet this year, and he’s got 13 walks across just 6.2 frames. Wheeler hasn’t been spectacular himself, but he’s coming off a pretty decent outing in a no-decision versus the Reds. On Tuesday Philly had a pretty good all-around offensive day but couldn’t overcome the mid-game hole. I like the Phillies to bounce back and put together a better effort in the finale.
