Philadelphia Phillies vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction 4-1-24 Picks

The Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Monday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. Here’s a Reds vs Phillies prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the game. We will examine:

Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

The Reds were able to win their Thursday opener versus the Nationals 8-2, but then took a tough 7-6 loss Saturday. In the game three rubber match Sunday, Cincinnati eked out a walk-off victory 6-5. The Reds posted three runs in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a pair of home runs from Will Benson and Christian Encarnacion-Strand.

For the starter gig in the Monday opener, the Reds will send out Andrew Abbott for his season debut. Last year Abbott posted an 8-6 record with a 3.87 ERA in 21 starts. Abbott managed to strike out 120 batters in 109.1 total innings.

Philadelphia Phillies

Over on the Phillies’ side, they took on the Braves over the weekend. Philadelphia lost the first two installments of that series 9-3 and 12-4. In the Sunday finale the Phillies took a close win of their own 5-4. Kyle Schwarber did some of the work with two hits, two runs and a solo homer. Alec Bohm added two hits and two RBI.

It’ll be Christopher Sanchez in the starting role on Monday for Philadelphia. Last season Sanchez went 3-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 19 games (18 starts). He managed to strike out 96 in 99.1 innings. Sanchez is 6-7 in his career with a 4.14 ERA in 41 games (22 starts).

Reds vs Phillies Prediction

I’ll take a stab on the Reds here. Abbott had a pretty solid season in 2023 (his MLB debut). He notched a winning record with 9.88 K/9 and 1.32 HR/9 overall. A good start from Abbott here would set Cincinnati up well. On Sunday the Reds offense played great overall despite coming up empty toward the middle of the game. There were some struggles in the bullpen however, as it took five different guys to take the reins from starter Nick Martinez. The longer Abbott can go here the better, but don’t see Cincinnati having a ton of issues staying in this game if all goes well.
