The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres meet Tuesday in MLB action from Petco Park. This will be the final installment in a quick two-game set. In the Monday opener, the Padres eked out a one-run walk-off victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona’s season started out with a four-game split against the Dodgers over the weekend. On Monday versus San Diego, the Diamondbacks out-hit the Padres 9-8 and had a ninth-inning lead before a tough 5-4 defeat. Starting pitcher Ryne Nelson lasted 5.0 innings with three earned on six hits and three walks.

Starter for the Tuesday game will be Arizona’s Zac Gallen. After his lone start this year Gallen is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA. In 4.2 innings he managed seven strikeouts. Gallen went 12-4 last year with a 2.54 ERA in 31 starts.

San Diego Padres

Over on the San Diego side, they also managed a split in four games over the weekend, theirs coming versus the Rockies. On Monday the Padres scored three runs in the first two innings, while David Dahl and Ha-Seong Kim each had ninth-frame homers to finish the comeback. Ryan Weathers lasted 5.0 innings as starter with two earned on five hits and one walk.

Yu Darvish will take the mound for the Tuesday start for San Diego. Last season Darvish went 16-8 overall with a 3.10 ERA in 30 games. In 194.2 innings he had 197 Ks. Darvish holds a 95-75 record with a 3.50 ERA in his career.

The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series and 47-102 in their last 149 road games. Arizona is 1-5 in their last six Tuesday games.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 6-2 in their last eight Tuesday games and The under is 4-1-1 in their last six Tuesday games. The over is 3-1-1 in San Diego’s last five in game two of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the Diamondbacks in this one. Probably staying away, though. Gallen is coming off a rough start against the Dodgers back on Thursday, giving up five earned on six hits and three walks in 4.2 innings. He’s a better pitcher than that however, and should rebound in this one. On Monday the Diamondbacks were up late thanks to an Evan Longoria solo homer in the top of the ninth—their first lead of the game. Unfortunately for Arizona, they gave up two solo homers in the bottom of that frame. It was a wild chain of events and a demoralizing loss. That said, I still think Arizona has a reasonable chance at bouncing back in game two.
