The Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres meet Sunday in MLB action from Petco Park. This will be the finale in a four-game weekend series. The Brewers took the first pair of matchups, then on Saturday the Padres managed a seven-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee eked out a 4-3 win in the Thursday opener of this set, then cruised to an 11-2 blowout win on Friday. In game three the Brewers couldn’t score after the fourth inning in a 10-3 loss. Freddy Peralta managed 5.0 innings with five earned on nine hits and a walk in the start.
Starter for the Brewers on Sunday will be Wade Miley. In his pair of starts so far Miley is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. He’s got six strikeouts in 11.0 innings. Miley is 100-95 with a 4.12 ERA in 294 career games (287 starts).
San Diego Padres
Over on the San Diego side, they were down 5-0 after two innings on Friday and couldn’t crawl out of the hole. On Saturday the Padres had 12 team hits (and gave up 12 as well) in the victory. Starter Seth Lugo put up 3.2 innings, three earned, eight hits and a walk.
It’ll be Yu Darvish in the starting role for the Padres on Sunday. In his two starts this year Darvish is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA and eight Ks in 11.1 innings. Darvish is 95-76 in his career with a 3.51 ERA in 244 starts total.
The Brewers are 1-5 in their last six in game four of a series and 7-3 in their last 10 versus the NL West. The under is 3-1-1 in Milwaukee’s last five in game four of a series.
Meanwhile, the Padres are 22-8 in their last 30 in game four of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games. San Diego is 4-1 in their last five versus a lefty starter.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m going to take a stab on Milwaukee in this one. Both starters could use a good showing here, though. Miley posted three earned on five hits and three walks over 5.0 innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks his last time up. As for Darvish, he gave up five earned on six hits and a walk in 6.1 frames against the Mets in his last outing. On Saturday the Brewers got some rough pitching performances from Peralta, Hoby Milner and Javy Guerra. It’s going to take a better defensive effort here (and some offense), but I think the Brewers have a decent shot at getting back in the win column in game three.
