The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles meet Friday in MLB action from Oriole Park. This game was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast. New York is coming off a series versus the Phillies. After a split in the first two games, in the Wednesday rubber match the Yankees bagged a two-run victory. As for Baltimore, they played Texas this week. The O’s won the first two games in that set, then on Wednesday Baltimore lost by three runs. New York Yankees
New York didn’t have much trouble in an 8-1 win over the Phillies on Monday, but they faltered Tuesday in a 4-1 loss. In Wednesday’s series finale, the Yankees scored twice in the seventh on the way to a 4-2 victory. Gerrit Cole went 6.1 frames in the start with one earned on three hits and three walks.
It’s looking like the starting pitcher for the Friday matchup will be New York’s Clarke Schmidt. In his first appearance of 2023 Schmidt went just 3.1 innings with three earned on five hits and one walk. Schmidt is 5-6 with a 3.91 ERA in 35 career games (six starts).
Baltimore Orioles
Over on the Baltimore side, they took care of the Rangers 2-0 on Monday and 7-2 in the Tuesday game two. In Wednesday’s matchup, the Orioles had just two hits in a 5-2 loss. Starter Grayson Rodriguez managed 5.0 innings with two earned, four hits and a walk.
As starter for the Friday matchup against New York, the Orioles are sending out Dean Kremer. In his first start this year, Kremer went just 3.0 innings with five earned on six hits and a walk. Kremer has a career 9-15 record with a 4.71 ERA.
The Yankees are 4-1 in the last five versus a right-handed starter and 11-3 in their last 14 versus the AL East. New York is 1-5 in their last six Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 9-1 in their last 10 Friday games and 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series. Baltimore is 107-219 in their last 326 versus the AL East.

I might take a stab on the Orioles as mild value play here. Probably staying away, though; the odds aren’t very advantageous. Baltimore lost their opening series against the Red Sox, but the offense was working well in those matchups. The O’s posted a total of 23 runs over three games, but also gave up nine runs in each installment themselves. On Wednesday in the finale of the Rangers series, Baltimore got a solid start out of Rodriguez but the bats and the bullpen couldn’t back him up. The O’s will need a quality start here as well, along with an offensive push. It’s a lot to ask, but if the score stays low I can see Baltimore hanging around.
