The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins meet Wednesday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series, and the end of the regular season. The Marlins took a shutout win in the opener, then on Tuesday the Braves evened it up with a close victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Atlanta couldn’t get anything going on four hits in the Monday opener of this series, falling 4-0 in a shutout. On Tuesday the Braves had eight hits in a tight 2-1 victory. Starter Jake Odorizzi went 5.0 innings with one earned on two hits and a walk.
The Braves are sending out Jackson Stephens for the start Wednesday. In his 38 games (zero starts) this year Stephens is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA. In 50.2 innings total he has 47 Ks.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they scored all their runs in the first three innings Monday and hung on for the win. On Tuesday, Miami briefly had the game tied 1-1 in the fourth but couldn’t come back. Braxton Garrett managed 4.2 innings in the start with two earned on six hits and five walks.
The Marlins will go with Elieser Hernandez for the Wednesday start. Over 19 games (nine starts) Hernandez is 3-6 with a 6.33 ERA.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with the Braves but not going near it. Stephens has been solid over his last few starts, with 3.2 innings, zero earned, two hits and two walks. Stephens is 1-1 in that stretch. As for Hernandez, he hasn’t pitched in the Majors since August 17, giving up three earned on three hits and two walks in 1.0 innings versus the Padres.
