The Miami Marlins and the New York Mets meet Sunday in MLB action from Citi Field. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. New York took a six-run win in the opener, then on Saturday the Mets bagged another victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins couldn’t score until the eighth inning on Friday, ultimately notching six hits in a 9-3 defeat. In the Saturday game two Miami couldn’t find much success on five team hits in a 5-2 loss. Trevor Rogers went 4.2 frames in the start with three earned, four hits and two walks.

As starter for the Sunday game, the Marlins will send out Braxton Garrett. In his first start of 2023 Garrett posted 3.0 innings with two earned on six hits, no walks and one K. Garrett holds a 4.14 career ERA in 28 games (26 starts) alongside a 5-10 record.

New York Mets

Over on the Mets’ side, they scored five runs across the seventh and eighth innings Friday on the way to the win. On Saturday New York scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings. Kodai Senga managed 6.0 innings, one earned three hits and three walks as starter.

Carlos Carrasco will make the start for the Mets on Sunday. In his first outing of the year, Carrasco struggled on five earned from four hits and four walks in 4.0 innings. He’s 104-86 in his career with a 3.89 ERA in 284 games (237 starts).

The Marlins are 11-30 in their last 41 versus the NL East and 2-7 in their last nine Sunday games. Miami is 17-36 in their last 53 versus a right-handed starter.

Meanwhile, the Mets are 9-4 in their last 13 Sunday games and 16-7 in their last 23 at home versus a lefty starter. New York is 35-16 in their last 51 in game three of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with the Mets in this one. Carrasco needs a good bounce-back effort in the start, though. He was pretty sketchy through 4.0 innings against the Brewers on April 3, which led to a 10-0 Mets loss. On Friday New York got some nice efforts from most of the pitching staff, and the offense provided more than enough run support. Another all-around game like that and New York will be in great shape for the sweep.

Andrew's Free Pick: New York Mets -171
