The Miami Marlins and the New York Mets meet Friday in MLB action from Citi Field. This matchup was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed due to the weather forecast. Miami is fresh off a series versus the Twins. The Marlins split the first pair in that set, then in the Wednesday rubber match Miami took a three-run victory. As for the Mets, they played the Brewers this week. New York lost the first two games in that series, and in the Wednesday matchup the Mets took a close loss. Miami Marlins

The Marlins took a rough 11-1 loss to the Twins in their Monday matchup, but bounced back with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday. In the Wednesday finale Miami scored four in the bottom of the eighth to power out a 5-2 victory. Starter Jesus Luzardo put up 7.0 innings with one earned, five hits, one walk and 10 Ks.

As starter for the Friday game one, the Marlins will send out Edward Cabrera. In his lone start this year Cabrera went 4.0 innings with two hits, six walks and two earned. In his 22 career starts Cabrera is 6-7 with a 3.79 ERA and 105 Ks.

New York Mets

Over on the New York side, they were drilled by the Brewers 10-0 Monday and 9-0 in game two. In the Wednesday matchup the Mets gave up four runs in the second inning and ultimately lost in a walk-off 7-6. David Peterson managed 4.0 innings with five earned on five hits and five walks with five strikeouts.

Tylor Megill will make the start for the Mets in Friday’s matchup. Megill posted 5.0 innings in his first start this year, giving up two earned on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Megill is 9-8 with a 4.69 career ERA in 34 games (28 starts) total.

The Marlins are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games and 11-29 in their last 40 versus the NL East. Miami is 30-67 in their last 97 in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Mets are 17-5 in their last 22 Thursday games and 38-16 in their last 54 at home versus a right-handed starter. New York is 38-18 in their last 56 in game one of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with the Mets. These teams have already had a series together this year. Last week, New York posted wins 5-3, 6-2 and 5-1 (with a 2-1 loss) at Marlins Park. The Mets were beaten up pretty badly in the first couple of Brewers games, though. On Wednesday New York again coughed up a ton of runs—they’re certainly going to need a good start from Megill here. If the Mets can get through the early part of the game with minimal damage, I think they’ll be in good shape for a victory in this opener.
