Marlins vs Giants Pick – MLB Predictions & Odds 4/17/23

The San Francisco Giants and the Miami Marlins meet Monday in MLB action from Marlins Park. San Francisco just finished up a series versus the Tigers. After losses in the first two games, on Sunday the Giants had a rainout. As for Miami, they played the Diamondbacks over the weekend. The Marlins won the first pair there, then on Sunday Miami lost in a shutout. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants had some trouble with the Tigers over the weekend, falling 7-5 on Friday and 7-6 in game two. In the Sunday finale San Francisco tried to wait out some bad weather for five hours but ended up postponing. The game will be made up on July 24.

As starter for the Monday game, the Giants will send out Logan Webb. This year Webb is 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA across three starts. He’s got 22 strikeouts and a 1.24 WHIP in 17.0 total innings.

Miami Marlins

Over on the Miami side, they took care of the Diamondbacks 5-1 on Friday and 3-2 in game two. In Sunday’s finale, the Marlins had just four hits in a 5-0 defeat. Starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara gave up four earned on seven hits with nine Ks in 6.0 frames.

For the starter gig in the Monday game, Miami will send out Jesus Luzardo. In three starts so far Luzardo is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He’s got 20 Ks in 18.2 innings. Luzardo is 15-18 with a 4.42 ERA over 64 games (48 starts) in his MLB career.

The Giants are 5-1 in their last six versus the NL East and 10-26 in their last 36 versus a team with a winning record. San Francisco is 1-5 in their last six in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 4-1 in their last five overall and 31-69 in their last 100 in game one of a series. Miami is 3-7 in their last 10 versus the NL West

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with the Marlins. Miami needs a good bounce-back effort on offense here after just four hits on Sunday, however. Luzardo has looked pretty good in his three starts this year; he’s coming off a win over Philly with 6.0 innings, three earned, eight hits and a walk on April 11. Luzardo has gone at least 5.2 innings in each of his starts so far, so he should be able to work deep into the game if all goes well in this opener. All things considered this should be a fun and competitive series, but I like the Marlins to pull off the first win.
