Los Angeles Angels
The Angels lost to Oakland 2-1 in the Thursday opener, but bounced back for a 13-1 blowout win on Saturday. In the Sunday rubber match the Angels got the series win with a 6-0 shutout victory. Tyler Anderson put up 6.0 innings with four hits and two walks in the start.
As starter for the Monday matchup, Los Angeles will go with Reid Detmers. Last year Detmers went 7-6 with a 3.77 ERA in 25 starts. In 129.0 innings he had 122 strikeouts. Over his 30 career starts, Detmers is 8-9 with a 4.27 ERA.
Seattle Mariners
Over on the Seattle side, they beat the Guardians 3-0 on opening day, but then fell 9-4 Friday and 2-0 Saturday. In the Sunday game the Mariners took a 6-5 defeat in 10 innings. Starter Marco Gonzales went 5.0 innings with four earned, six hits and two walks.
George Kirby will be the starting pitcher for the Mariners on Monday. Over 25 games in his career, Kirby is 8-5 with a 3.39 ERA. In 130.0 innings total he has 133 strikeouts and a 1.21 WHIP.
The Angels are 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series and 2-5 in their last seven Monday games. The over is 4-0 in Los Angeles’ last four Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 3-9 in their last 12 in game one of a series and 0-4 in their last four versus the AL West. The under is 6-1-1 in Seattle’s last eight in game one of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably try the Angels in this one. Los Angeles had a good all-around game on Sunday, posting 11 team hits while allowing just five on the other side in a pitching shutout. Both Taylor Ward and Mike Trout had three hits apiece, which is a nice sign for the bats. As for Seattle, they’ve scored three or more runs in three of their four games so far. That’s only led to a single win, however. The Mariners have given up a combined 17 runs over the last three games, so Los Angeles should have some opportunities in this series.
