The Miami Marlins and the Cleveland Guardians meet Saturday in MLB doubleheader action from Progressive Field. These will be the first and second installments in a three-game weekend series. The Friday opener was postponed by rain. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins played the Giants this week. Miami managed a 4-3 win in the Monday opener, then took a 4-2 victory on Tuesday. The Marlins couldn’t pull off the sweep however, as they fell 5-2 in the Wednesday finale.

As starter for game one, Miami will go with Sandy Alcantara. So far this season Alcantara is 1-2 with a 5.47 ERA in four starts. In the nightcap it’ll be Braxton Garrett. This year Garrett has a 3.38 ERA with 13 Ks and no decisions yet.

Cleveland Guardians

Over on the Guardians’ side, they played the Tigers in their last series. Cleveland fell in two close ones 4-3 and 1-0 in the Tuesday doubleheader. The Guardians staved off the sweep with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday.

Shane Bieber will take the mound for the Guardians on Saturday in game one. In his four starts this year Bieber is 1-0 with a 2.88 ERA. Bieber is 55-26 with a 3.16 ERA in his career over 117 games (115 starts). Game two will be Zach Plesac. This season Plesac is 1-0 with a 6.92 ERA and eight strikeouts.

The Marlins are 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series and 22-46 in their last 68 road games versus a team with a winning record. Miami is 18-39 in their last 57 interleague games.

Meanwhile, the Guardians are 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series and 36-17 in their last 53 overall. Cleveland is 8-2 in their last 10 Saturday games.

ANDREW’S GAME 1 FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Cleveland here. Bieber been pretty steady this year and working deep into games. He should post a quality outing in this one if all goes well. Bieber has a total of 19.0 innings with eight earned runs over his last three starts. He did give up nine hits in his last outing however, so Miami may have some opportunities.

ANDREW’S GAME 2 FREE PICK

I might try the Marlins for game two. Garrett has pitched pretty well over his three games so far with five earned runs in 13.1 innings. Garrett has given up a lot of hits however—19 against 13 strikeouts and two walks. That said, if Miami can give him a few runs of support I think Garrett will be in good shape.

Andrew's Free Pick: Game 1: Cleveland Guardians -140 --- Game 2: Miami Marlins +105
