The Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants meet Sunday in MLB action from Oracle Park. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. The Giants took a two-run win in the Friday opener, then on Saturday San Francisco bagged a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers were up 4-2 at one point in the Friday matchup but ended up losing 6-4 after losing steam. On Saturday Milwaukee couldn’t score until the ninth inning in a 4-1 loss. Starter Colin Rea managed 6.0 innings, three earned, four hits and a walk.
For the starter job in the Sunday game it’ll be Milwaukee’s Adrian Houser. This will be Houser’s season debut. He’s 23-29 with a 3.97 career ERA in 106 games (76 starts).
San Francisco Giants
Over on the Giants’ side, they had a tepid five team hits in the Friday matchup but that was good enough for the victory. On Saturday San Francisco jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three frames and rolled the rest of the way. Alex Cobb finished on 7.0 clean frames, two walks, five hits and five Ks.
Ross Stripling will take the mound for the Giants on Sunday. Over his six games this year Stripling is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. In his career Stripling is 38-39 with a 3.85 ERA in 210 games (107 starts).
The Brewers are 2-5 in their last seven in game three of a series and 0-5 in their last five overall. The over is 5-2 in Milwaukee’s last seven road games versus a right-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Giants are 6-1 in their last seven at home and 10-4 in their last 14 Sunday games. San Francisco is 13-3 in their last 16 in game three of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll try the Giants in this one. It’ll be interesting to see what Houser does in his debut, though. Stripling is coming off an encouraging start on May 1 versus the Astros. In that one Stripling managed 5.0 innings with five hits, no walks and two earned in a no-decision. If he can get some offensive help here the Giants should be in good shape initially at least. On Saturday San Francisco didn’t have an enormous offensive onslaught but it was good enough for the victory. I think the Giants can bag the sweep here.
