Saint Louis Cardinals
Saint Louis didn’t have much luck against the Braves this week, falling 8-4 Monday, 4-1 Tuesday and 5-2 in the finale. In that Wednesday matchup, Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas went 6.0 innings with five earned on nine hits and a walk.
For the starter role in the Friday game, the Cardinals are going with Jack Flaherty. In his first start this year Flaherty put up 5.0 clean innings with seven walks, no hits and four strikeouts. Flaherty is 35-25 over 103 games (99 starts) in his career.
Milwaukee Brewers
Over on the Milwaukee side, they drilled the Mets 10-0 Monday and 9-0 on Tuesday. The finale was closer, but still a 7-6 Brewers victory. Wednesday starter Corbin Burnes put up 4.1 innings with six earned on seven hits and two walks but was bailed out by the offense.
Brandon Woodruff will take the mound for the start on Friday. In 6.0 innings during his first start, Woodruff posted one earned on three hits and a walk alongside eight Ks. He’s 41-25 with a 3.17 ERA in his career over 120 games (105 starts).
The Cardinals are 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games and 2-7 in their last nine overall. St. Louis is 1-4 in their last five after a loss.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 5-0 in their last five and 5-1 in their last six at home. Milwaukee is 9-4 in their last 13 versus the NL Central.

I’ll probably stick with Milwaukee in this one. You could make a case either way, though. St. Louis should get a quality start out of Flaherty—the offense needs to get back on track, though. After four or more runs in each of their first four games, the Cardinals have posted just three combined runs in their last pair. Milwaukee, meanwhile, has scored seven or more runs in four straight games. If Woodruff can notch a decent start in his second outing here, the Brewers should be in great shape.
