The Los Angeles Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers meet Saturday in MLB action from American Family Field. This will be the second installment in a three-game weekend series. In the Friday opener, the Brewers eked out a low-scoring one-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels played the A’s in their last series, taking a loss Monday before wins in the next three outings. On Friday versus Milwaukee, Los Angeles out-hit the Brewers 9-8 in a 2-1 loss. Tyler Anderson put up 6.2 innings in the start with one earned on five hits and three walks.
For the starter job in the Saturday matchup, the Angels will send out Reid Detmers. In his four starts so far Detmers is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. Detmers is 8-10 with a 4.25 career ERA in 34 starts.
Milwaukee Brewers
Over on the Milwaukee side, they took on the Tigers this week. The Brewers lost the first pair of that series before a Wednesday win. On Friday Milwaukee got the eventual game-winning hit from Rowdy Tellez in the eighth inning. Starter Wade Miley managed 6.0 innings, seven hits, one earned and no walks.
Corbin Burnes will make the start for the Brewers on Saturday. In his five starts this season Burnes is 2-1 with a 4.55 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 27.2 innings of work. Burnes is 37-20 with a 3.28 career ERA in 140 games (79 starts).
The Angels are 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games and 5-13 in their last 18 interleague games. The over is 4-0 in their last four Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 10-2 in their last 12 in game two of a series and 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games. The under is 4-1 in Milwaukee’s last five versus a lefty starter.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with the Brewers in this one. Burnes has done pretty well over his last three starts, going 2-0 in that stretch with 18.1 combined innings, four earned, five walks and 11 hits total. As for Detmers, he’s got four earned on 13 hits and two walks over 12.0 innings in his last pair. On Friday the Brewers got some great pitching performances from Miley and the bullpen. The last three innings featured no walks and just two hits. Offensively there was a bit to be desired, but Milwaukee should still be in good shape for a potential game two victory.
