Chicago White Sox
The White Sox played the Rays over the weekend, losing all three games in a sweep. On Monday versus Toronto the Sox gave up four runs in the fourth inning and ended up losing 5-2. Lance Lynn lasted 5.0 frames in the start with four earned, five hits and three walks.
For the starter job in the Tuesday matchup, Chicago will send out Mike Clevinger. In his four starts this year Clevinger is 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 19.1 innings. In his career Clevinger is 53-31 with a 3.38 ERA in 132 games (118 starts).
Toronto Blue Jays
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, they managed to take two of three games from the Yankees over the weekend. On Monday Toronto out-hit the Sox 8-3 in the win. Starting pitcher Chris Bassitt put up 6.1 innings with two earned on three hits and three walks.
Jose Berrios will get the call for the Tuesday start. This year in four starts Berrios is 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA. He’s got 21 Ks in 21.2 innings. Berrios is 73-57 in his MLB career with a 4.28 ERA over 184 games (183 starts).
The White Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 Tuesday games and the over is 8-1-2 in their last 11 in game two of a series. The over is 3-1-2 in Chicago’s last six versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games and 38-16 in their last 54 versus a right-handed starter. The under is 4-0 in Toronto’s last four in game two of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m sticking with Toronto here. Probably not messing with it due to the thick line, however. Berrios has given up just three earned in 12.0 combined innings on seven hits and a walk in his last two starts. As for Clevinger, he had a bit of a rough outing against Philly in his last appearance (3.0 innings; three earned) but should be fine here. On Monday Toronto had just the one big inning but that’s all they needed, thanks to a solid pitching effort across the board. I like the Jays to keep it going in game two.
