The Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels meet Tuesday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. This will be the second installment in a four-game series this week. In the Monday opener, the A’s eked out a one-run win in a wild extra-innings game. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Oakland Athletics
The A’s played the Rangers over the weekend, winning Friday but dropping the other two weekend games. On Monday versus the Angels, Oakland blew an early 7-2 lead and needed 10 innings to power out the 11-10 win. Starter Ken Waldichuk put up 5.1 innings with five earned on six hits and a walk.
For the starter gig in the Tuesday matchup the A’s will send out Mason Miller. In his lone start this year (and the first of his career) Miller went 4.1 innings with two earned, four hits, one walk and five Ks against the Cubs.
Los Angeles Angels
Over on the Angels’ side, they managed to win two of three games versus the Royals over the weekend. In the Monday matchup LA scored five runs in the sixth inning on the way to the comeback but fell short after allowing four runs int he final two frames. Jose Suarez lasted 5.0 innings with seven earned on eight hits and two walks.
Griffin Canning will take the mound for the start on Tuesday. In two starts without a decision this year Canning has a 3.48 ERA and eight Ks in 10.1 innings. In his career Canning is 12-13 with a 4.67 ERA in 45 games (43 starts).
The A’s are 16-38 in their last 54 road games and 15-39 in their last 54 overall. Oakland is 0-5 in their last five in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 8-2 in their last 10 at home versus a right-handed starter and the under is 6-1 in their last seven Tuesday games. The over is 5-2 in LA’s last seven in game two of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably take a stab on the Angels here—also probably not touching it due to the thick line. Neither starter has a ton of innings under his belt yet this year, so it’s hard to tell how this one will shake out. Canning has done fairly well over his first pair of outings though, posting four earned in 10.1 innings. On Monday Los Angeles initially did a great job with the comeback, but let the game get away in the later innings. A good start from Canning will go a long way here, as the Angels won’t have to dig out of an early hole.
