The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Georgia Southern Eagles do battle Saturday in week 2 college football action from Memorial Stadium Lincoln. Georgia Southern played Morgan State in their opener over the weekend. In that one the Eagles won in a blowout. As for Nebraska, they’re coming off a matchup versus North Dakota. The Huskers ended up winning by 21 points. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.

Georgia Southern didn’t have the greatest season in 2021. The Eagles ended up at 3-9 overall and 2-6 in Sun Belt play. That record would leave Georgia Southern in last place in the East Division and ahead of just Arkansas State (1-7) in the conference.

In their 2022 opener versus Morgan State, Georgia Southern scored in each of the final three quarters for a 59-7 blowout win. QB Kyle Vantrease managed 367 yards with four scores and a pick. Sam Kenerson led the receivers on 99 yards, and OJ Arnold rushed for 45 yards and a TD on six totes.

Over on the Nebraska side, they played Northwestern back on August 27 to open up the year. The Cornhuskers ended up with a tough 31-28 loss. QB Casey Thompson put up 355 pass yards, one TD and two picks. Anthony Grant led the rush with 101 yards and two scores.

In game two versus North Dakota, Nebraska turned a 7-7 halftime tie into a 38-17 blowout victory with 31 second-half points. QB Casey Thompson managed 193 yards and two scores with a pick. Anthony Grant had a nice day on the ground with 189 rush yards and two touchdowns of his own.

PICK: I’m going to try Georgia Southern here. The Eagles didn’t have much trouble versus Morgan State in their opener, rattling off 504 total yards, 26 first downs, 6.5 yards per play and a solid 11-of-17 rate on third downs. Georgia Southern held the Bears to just 250 total yards on the other side and came up with four turnovers as well.

As for Nebraska, they got going after a sluggish first half but should have been more dominant over North Dakota. Still, the 437 yards and 7.0 yards per play were a good sign. All things considered though I don’t trust the Cornhuskers to manage a cover in this one.
