Kansas State took wins over Stanford, Southern Illinois and Nevada in their first three games this year. The Wildcats hit the skids after that with losses in tough matchups to Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Iowa State before a 25-24 win over Texas Tech on October 23.
Last weekend versus TCU, the Wildcats jumped out to a 21-5 halftime lead and cruised to a 31-12 victory. QB Skylar Thompson finished on 242 yards, one TD and one pick. Deuce Vaughn added 109 yards with two scores on 20 carries to lead the rush.
Over on the Jayhawks’ side, they managed a three-point win over South Dakota in their opener this year. Kansas would slide into a win streak afterward, falling to Coastal Carolina, Baylor, Duke, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
In the matchup versus Oklahoma State, the Jayhawks never had a chance, falling behind 38-0 at the half on the way to a 55-3 blowout defeat. QB Miles Kendrick managed 34 yards and a pick on just 6-of-8 passing, and also led the rush with 32 yards on nine carries.
The Wildcats are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 in November and 4-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record. Kansas State is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five road games as well.
Meanwhile the Jayhawks are 15-36 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 6-20 ATS in their last 26 overall. Kansas is also 3-13 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going to try Kansas State in this one, even with the thick line. The Wildcats put up a pretty solid offensive effort in their win over TCU with 388 total yards, 7.1 yards per play and two key fourth-down conversions. It was a clean game overall for Kansas State on four penalties and just one turnover.
As for Kansas, they didn’t have much chance of keeping up versus Oklahoma State, and the results speak for themselves. The Jayhawks posted just 143 total yards, seven first downs, 0-of-13 on third-down tries and three turnovers. The numbers should be better in this one but I still think Kansas State has the edge on a cover.
