The Georgia Southern Eagles and James Madison Dukes clash Saturday in week 7 college football action from Paulson Stadium. James Madison just finished up a game versus Arkansas State. In that matchup the Dukes won in a blowout. As for Georgia Southern, they played Georgia State over the weekend. The Eagles would go on to lose by eight points. James Madison’s 2022 campaign began with a 44-7 blowout victory over Middle Tennessee. The Dukes kept it rolling with wins over Norfolk State 63-7 and Appalachian State 32-28 in the next pair. Game four was another win, this time 40-13 over Texas State.

Matched up against Arkansas State, the Dukes scored 21 points in the final quarter on the way to a 42-20 victory. QB Todd Centeio finished with 394 yards and four touchdowns, while Percy Agyei-Obese rushed 21 times for 158 yards and two scores.

Over on the Georgia Southern side, they blew out Morgan State 59-7 in their opener this year, then got by Nebraska 45-42. The Eagles lost to UAB 35-21 the next week, then beat Ball State 34-23 before a 34-30 loss to Coastal Carolina.

In the Georgia State game, Georgia Southern scored in every quarter (and gave up points in every quarter) during a high-flying 41-33 loss. QB Kyle Vantrease had 359 yards and three scores with four picks. Jalen White led the rush on 71 yards and a TD.

PICK: I’m probably staying with James Madison. The Dukes did a great job against Arkansas State in their last matchup, cruising to 598 total yards, 7.5 yards per play and 33 first downs. James Madison held the Red Wolves to just 20 rush yards and 4-of-13 on third downs on the other side as well.

As for Georgia Southern, they were burned pretty badly by five turnovers and seven penalties in their loss to Georgia State. There are some positives to take away from the loss, but also plenty to work on. All things considered I don’t think the Eagles will be ready to cover.
