Youngstown State won their first two games this year over Canisius and TN-Martin before a loss to Notre Dame. The Penguins beat Grace Bible College and UC San Diego, lost to Navy then beat Western Illinois.
Youngstown State’s third loss of the year came versus Northern Kentucky on Thursday. The Penguins fought through two overtime periods and lost 77-73. Malek Green (21 points; 15 rebounds) and Dwayne Cohill (21 points) led the scoring.
Over on the Wright State side, they lost their opener to Davidson then beat Louisville, Bowling Green, Defiance and Abilene Christian in the next four. The Raiders lost to UC Riverside then beat Weber State.
On Thursday against Robert Morris, the Raiders were down 44-36 by halftime and didn’t get any closer in an 80-59 loss. The only team players in double-figures were Tim Finke (18 points) and Trey Calvin (10 points).
PICK: I’ll probably stick with Youngstown State. The Penguins are coming off a rough double-overtime loss versus a Northern Kentucky team they probably should have beaten. That said, Youngstown State should do well in this matchup. The Penguins have notched 73 or more points in seven of their eight games so far. As for Wright State, they didn’t play well versus Robert Morris in their last game. The Raiders should pick it up in this one but I don’t think they’ll cover.
