Oral Roberts managed to go 7-6 over their first 13 games with losses to Colorado State, Central AR, Oklahoma State, TCU, Missouri State and SD State. The Eagles have since beaten Denver, Omaha, St. Thomas MN and Western Illinois.
In the Western Illinois matchup, the Golden Eagles posted a slim 45-44 lead at the break and maintained it for an 87-86 thriller victory. Top scorer Max Abmas posted 32 points with 11 rebounds, and Elijah Lufile added 18 points.
Over on the UMKC side, their year began on a 5-6 run with wins over Missouri, Kansas Christian, Idaho State, Calvalry and Green Bay. The Kangaroos have been on a three-game win streak over South Dakota, Omaha and Baptist Bible College (MO) since then.
Matched up against Baptist Bible College (MO) on Tuesday, the Roos didn’t have much trouble. UMKC scored 46 points in the first half and 52 more from there in a 98-57 blowout win. Tops in scoring was Anderson Kopp with 19 points, two rebounds and three assists.
The Roos are 2-5 ATS in the last seven overall and 6-1 ATS in their last seven at home. UMKC is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 road games and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 overall. The over is 15-6 in Oral Roberts’ last 21 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Oral Roberts. The Eagles have been pretty impressive on the scoreboard lately. They’ve hit 71 or more points in each of their last seven games, going a smooth 6-1 in that stretch. If Oral Roberts comes out firing in this one, UMKC is going to have to struggle to keep up. The Roos have been at 68 points or fewer in five of their last six games, and without a big offensive performance I don’t see UMKC keeping up here.
