The Cal State Northridge Matadors and the UC San Diego Tritons meet Saturday in college basketball action from LionTree Arena. CSU Northridge is 6-20 on the season so far. The Matadors lost to UC Davis in their last game. As for UC San Diego, they’re 8-18 overall following a loss to CSU Fullerton on Wednesday. CSU Northridge Matadors
Cal State Northridge kicked off the year on a rough run, going just 3-15 in their first 18 outings. The Matadors are just 3-5 in the last eight games. The losses in that stretch came to UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, CSU Bakersfield and UC Davis.
In the UC Davis game on Wednesday, the Matadors were down 39-34 going into the second half. CSU Northridge was outscored 34-28 from there and lost 73-62. Atin Wright was the leading scorer with a whopping 42 points and five rebounds.
UC San Diego Tritons
Over on the UC San Diego side, they didn’t have a great start either. The Tritons went just 6-12 in their first 18 games, and since have gone 2-6. The losses in that time were to Long Beach State, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, CSUB, Hawaii and CSU Fullerton.
In the CSU Fullerton matchup back on Wednesday, UC San Diego took a 40-35 edge into the locker room. The Tritons were outscored 41-33 from there and lost 76-73. Tops in scoring was Francis Nwaokorie with 19 points and seven boards.

I’ll probably stick with UC San Diego. Also probably not touching this one; you could make a case either way. That said, there’s not a ton of intrigue here as both teams are struggling. In any case, the last time these teams saw each other was back on January 26 at the Matadome. UC San Diego ended up with a 65-57 win in that one after starting out the first half on a 33-28 run. UC San Diego has been on a five-game losing streak since then, hitting 70 points just once in that time. This rematch will probably be a fairly competitive one, but ultimately I’ll take the Tritons at home.
