Northwestern State Demons

The Demons were only able to win five of their first 21 games this year over Dallas Christian, Southern-New Orleans, Incarnate Word, Houston Christian and New Orleans. Northwestern State 3-2 since then with wins over Texas A&M-Commerce, New Orleans and Incarnate Word.

In the Incarnate Word matchup on Saturday, the Demons were all knotted up at 34-34 by halftime. Northwestern State hit their stride in the second on a 47-27 run and took the win 81-61. Jae Slack came off the bench to lead the team on 18 points and four boards.

Over on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi side, they were 9-7 by mid-January. The Islanders are on a 6-3 run since then, taking out SE Louisiana, Nicholls, Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce (twice) and Lamar with losses to McNeese (twice) and Nicholls otherwise.

In their rematch with Texas A&M-Commerce over the weekend, the Islanders posted 44 points in the first half and 42 in the second on the way to a solid win 86-63. Leading the way in scoring during the victory was Garry Clark on 24 points, six rebounds and one assist.

ANDREW’S FREE NORTHWESTERN STATE VS TEXAS A&M-CC PREDICTION

I like Texas A&M-CC in this one, but it should be a pretty good game if all goes well. The Islanders didn’t have a ton of issues with Texas A&M-Commerce in their last game, hitting a nice 59 percent from the field with a dominant edge on the boards 39-18. It was a promising bounce back after a couple of down offensive outings with 130 combined points in two games.

These teams saw each other back on January 27 in a road win for the Islanders 79-68. The Islanders shot well (47.3 percent) and rebounded well (37) in that one also. I like another good performance from Texas A&M-CC in the rematch, but the Demons could follow along if they’re playing well.
