The Nicholls State Colonels and the Texas A&M-CC Islanders meet Wednesday in college basketball action from American Bank Center. Nicholls State sits at 19-10 on the year. The Colonels are fresh off a loss to SE Louisiana. As for Texas A&M-CC, they’re 19-10 as well and coming off a win over Houston Baptist. Nicholls State started out the year at 7-3, then had a rough 4-6 run that lasted into late January. The Colonels would then win eight straight games before seeing their streak snapped over the weekend versus SE Louisiana.
Matched up against SE Louisiana on Saturday, the Colonels hit a 48-34 run in the first half. Nicholls State fell behind 33-49 from there and lost a tough one 83-81. Ty Gordon was the top team scorer on 33 points and five assists.
Over on the Texas A&M-CC side, they started out the year on a 16-5 run before taking losses to Northwestern State, New Orleans (twice), Nicholls State and SE Louisiana. Since then it’s been wins over Northwestern State, McNeese and Houston Baptist.
In the Houston Baptist game on Saturday, the Islanders held a 41-27 halftime advantage. Texas A&M-CC was outscored 34-43 in the second but held on for the 75-70 win. Isaac Mushila doubled up on 12 points with 10 boards in the victory.
The Islanders are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 36-17-1 in Texas A&M-CC’s last 54 overall.
Meanwhile, the Colonels are 2-6 ATS in the last eight after an ATS loss and 2-5 ATS in the last seven overall. The under is 5-2 in Nicholls’ last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to try Texas A&M-CC here. The Islanders had a rough run in early February with the five straight losses, but they were still scoring pretty well during that time and have recovered in the three games since. The last time these teams met up, Nicholls pulled off an 83-80 overtime win at home. Here in the rematch amid more familiar surroundings, I think the Islanders can pull off a revenge cover. Should be a great game.
