Tennessee State vs Eastern Illinois Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/19/23

Eastern Illinois Panthers 

Eastern Illinois went 5-9 over their first 14 games, beating only SMWC, Blackburn, IUPUI, Iowa and Lindenwood. The Panthers are 2-3 since then with losses to Tennessee Tech, Morehead State and SIU Edwardsville in that time. 

In the Little Rock matchup on Saturday, the Panthers were up 32-25 going into the second half. Eastern Illinois scored 38 points from there and won it 70-63. Kinyon Hodges was the top team scorer on 23 points and four rebounds. 

Tennessee State Tigers 

Over on the Tennessee State side, they were 8-6 to start out the year. Losses in that time came to SC State, Southern Illinois, High Point, Saint Louis, Austin Peay and Charleston Southern. The Tigers are 2-4 in their last six with wins over only Little Rock and Lindenwood. 

On Saturday versus Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State was up 33-31 at the break. The Tigers were outscored 40-30 from there and lost 71-63. Jr. Clay was the leading team scorer with his 22 points and seven rebounds.

I’m staying with Eastern Illinois. The Panthers are on a 5-3 run over their last eight games, scoring 70 or more points in four of those eight games. That said, Eastern Illinois is also just 1-3 in their last four games with more than 62 points in just one of those. The Panthers need a good showing here, but they should match up well with Tennessee State. The Tigers have been at 66 points or fewer in three straight, so I’m not sure they’ll be able to keep up the cover pace if Eastern Illinois plays well.
