The Charlotte 49ers and the Temple Owls meet Sunday in college basketball action from Liacouras Center. Charlotte is coming off a loss to South Florida that dropped the 49ers to 14-8 overall. Charlotte 49ers
The 49ers posted a sketchy 6-7 run over their first 13 games of the season. Charlotte would recover on wins over Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, UTSA, Rice, North Texas, UAB, Tulane and East Carolina over the next eight outings, but then took a loss to South Florida on Tuesday.
In the South Florida matchup, the 49ers were in command 47-37 going into the second half. Charlotte was outscored 35-22 from there however, leading to a 72-69 defeat in the end. Tops in scoring was Dishon Jackson with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Temple Owls
Over on the Temple side, they started out their season with a 6-3 run, then hit a 2-4 stretch with wins over only Portland and Wichita State. Since then it’s been losses to East Carolina, North Texas, SMU, Rice, South Florida, East Carolina again, Tulane and Memphis.
Back on Thursday versus Memphis, the Owls were facing a 45-27 deficit in the locker room. Temple came back with a 50-39 second half but couldn’t bridge the gap on an 84-77 result. Jahlil White scored 20 points with eight rebounds and two assists to top the team in the defeat.
ANDREW’S FREE CHARLOTTE VS TEMPLE PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Charlotte. The 49ers had a bad second half in their last outing versus South Florida, but did shoot a solid 46 percent from the field with 32 rebounds. The 11 turnovers that led to 14 Bulls points didn’t help, though. It’s been a pretty good scoring run during this 8-1 stretch for Charlotte; they’ve hit 66 or more points in all but one of those games.
As for Temple, they’ve managed 69 or more points in three of the last four outings, but they’ve also given up 70 or more in all four. It wouldn’t be surprising for the Owls to rally at home and pull off the cover here, but I’m leaning toward Charlotte all the same.
