The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Syracuse Orange meet Saturday in college basketball action from JMA Wireless Dome. Notre Dame enters this one at 10-16 following a win over Louisville. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Irish only won seven of their first 23 games this year, taking out Niagara, Oklahoma State, MD-Eastern Shore, Marist, Virginia and Georgia Tech in that time. Since then Notre Dame has been on a three-game win streak over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Louisville, however.
In the Louisville game on Wednesday, the Irish were up 31-25 going into the second half. Notre Dame kept the pressure on with a 41-25 run from there and took the blowout win 72-50 in the end. Braeden Shrewsberry was the leading team scorer on 23 points with four rebounds in 29 minutes.
Syracuse Orange
Over on the Orange’s side, they posted a 13-5 run over their first 18 games. It’s been a choppy run at 4-5 since then, as Syracuse has lost to Florida State, Boston College, Wake Forest, Clemson and Georgia Tech. The wins otherwise were over NC State, Louisville, North Carolina and NC State.
In the NC State matchup, the Orange went into the locker room with a 55-40 halftime edge. Syracuse was outscored 43-32 the rest of the way but held on for the win 87-83. Leading team scorer Chris Bell posted 26 points with three boards, and Quadir Copeland added 25 bench points.
ANDREW’S FREE NOTRE DAME VS SYRACUSE PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Notre Dame. You could argue this one either way, though. The Irish didn’t have much trouble with Louisville in their last game, posting 41.5 percent shooting with a 42-37 rebounding edge and just seven turnovers. It’s been a pretty solid three-game win streak for Notre Dame, and they’ve hit 72 or more points in two of those.
As for Syracuse, they’ve been pretty spotty in the win column lately but they’re still scoring well. The Orange have posted 68 or more points in 10 of the last 11 outings and should put up a pretty decent total in this one as well. Notre Dame is going to have to get the offense going, but I think they’re up for a cover. Should be a fun game to watch.
