Stephen F. Austin vs Abilene Christian 12/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Abilene Christian Wildcats and the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks meet Thursday in college basketball action from William R. Johnson Coliseum. Abilene Christian is 8-5 overall this year and coming off a win versus Howard Payne. As for Stephen F. Austin, they’re currently 8-5 as well. The Lumberjacks beat Jackson State in their last game. Abilene Christian went just 2-4 over their first six games, beating only Jackson State and McMurry. Since then it’s been a 6-1 run with wins versus Northern AZ, North American, ABU, Texas A&M-Commerce, CSU Bakersfield and Howard Payne. 

In the Howard Payne game last Wednesday, the Wildcats were up 61-29 by halftime. Abilene Christian rolled on a 52-23 second-half advantage and won 113-52. Tobias Cameron topped the team with 18 points and seven boards. 

Over on the Stephen F. Austin side, they were 3-3 over their first six games with wins over LeTourneau, SD State and Gardner-Webb. The Lumberjacks are 5-2 since then with wins over UNCG, Paul Quinn, LA Tech, North American and Jackson State. 

Matched up against Jackson State back on December 22, the Lumberjacks were up 36-29 going into the second half. Stephen F. Austin scored another 44 points in an 80-69 win. Sadaidriene Hall doubled on 20 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. 

PICK: I’ll probably take a stab on Abilene Christian here. We should have a pretty great matchup here though, so you could make a case either way. The Wildcats are playing well during this 6-1 stretch. They’ve hit 83 or more points in five of those seven games and should score pretty well in this one. As for Stephen F. Austin, they’ve hit 70 or more points in seven straight games themselves. I like this one to be a fairly high-scoring matchup with Abilene Christian eking out a cover. Should be a fun one to watch.
