Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks
LA-Monroe opened the season on a sketchy 9-11 stretch through 20 games. In the next seven outings, the Warhawks went just 2-5 with losses to Troy, James Madison, South Alabama, Appalachian State and Southern Miss during that time.
In the Louisiana matchup on Thursday, the Warhawks were drilled 49-18 in the first half alone. LA-Monroe scored 49 points from there but still lost big 84-67. Thomas Howell was the lead scorer with 16 points and six boards.
South Alabama Jaguars
Over on the South Alabama side, they hit an 8-12 run over their first 20 outings. The Jaguars’ next seven were better at 5-2 with wins over Troy, Arkansas State, LA-Monroe, Appalachian State and Hartford alongside losses to Old Dominion and Troy.
Matched up against Southern Miss on Thursday, South Alabama jumped out to a 42-27 halftime edge. The Jaguars kept it up with a 43-27 second-half run and won 85-54. Isaiah Moore led the team with his 16 points and six assists.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stick with South Alabama. With a double-digit line here I could probably go either way, though. The Jaguars put on an absolute clinic on Thursday versus a very good Southern Miss team, dominating the game the whole way. They’ve now won six of the last seven. South Alabama last met LA-Monroe back on February 4 in a 72-64 road win at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Jaguars have scored 74 or more points in three straight games and I like them to keep it going with a cover in this one. LA-Monroe has lost five of their last six and simply isn’t playing well right now.
