The California Baptist Lancers and the San Diego Toreros meet Saturday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Cal Baptist is sitting at 6-4 overall. The Lancers beat Weber State in their last game. As for San Diego, they’re 5-4 so far and coming off a loss to UNLV. Cal Baptist went 3-3 over their first six games, beating NJIT, CSU Northridge and Washington along the way. The Lancers hit a 3-1 run in their next four outings, beating Central Michigan, UC Riverside and Weber State.

In the Weber State matchup back on Wednesday, the Lancers were up 31-15 by halftime. Cal Baptist was outscored 37-34 in the second but still won 64-52. Scotty Washington led the team on 18 points.

Over on the San Diego side, they went 4-2 over their first six games, beating Sonoma State, FGCU, NJIT and SDCC. The Toreros would then lose to Nicholls State, beat Longwood and lose to UNLV over the next trio.

Last weekend in the UNLV game, the Toreros were drilled 49-28 in the first half. San Diego scored 50 from there but couldn’t come back in a 95-78 loss. Top team scorer Eric Williams doubled on 16 points and 14 rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on San Diego here. Probably not touching it, though. The Toreros struggled in the first half of their last outing versus a very good UNLV team, but they’ve been competitive overall this year. San Diego has scored 70 or more points in every game so far but may have issues keeping that trend going in this matchup if the team isn’t on point. As for Cal Baptist, they’ve given up 64 points or fewer in each of their last nine games. This should be an interesting matchup if the Lancers play well, but I like San Diego a little better cover-wise.
