Lafayette lost their first four games this year to Miami-FL, St. John’s, Saint Joseph’s and UMBC before a win over Central CT State. The Leopards hit another losing streak to Penn, Penn State and Drexel after that.
In Sunday’s game versus Cornell, the Leopards had it tied up 41-41 by halftime but faded from there in a 73-68 loss. Tops in scoring was Kyle Jenkins with 17 points and eight boards. Leo O’Boyle had 14 points with five rebounds as well.
Over on the Princeton side, they lost their first two games to Hofstra and Navy. The Tigers would hit a win streak after that, beating UMBC, Marist, Army, Northeastern, Cairn and Drexel in succession to move to 6-2 overall.
On Saturday versus Drexel, the Tigers were up 36-27 by the break. Princeton hit a 47-36 run after that and took the 83-63 win. Matt Alloco posted 19 points, and Tosan Evbuomwan doubled up on 16 points and 13 boards.
PICK: I’ll probably stay with Princeton here. The Tigers are on an impressive run over their last six games, and they’ve been scoring well all year. Princeton has hit 73 or more points in six of their eight outings so far and a combined 175 in their last pair. The Tigers are also coming off a hot performance against Drexel, shooting 53.8 percent from the field with 39 rebounds and 11 team assists. Provided Princeton plays to their capabilities here, Lafayette won’t be able to keep up.
