Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas kicked off the year on a nice 16-2 run. The Jayhawks are 4-3 in their last seven games, however. Kansas has wins over Kansas State, Texas, Kentucky and Oklahoma with losses otherwise to TCU, Baylor and Iowa State in that time.
On Saturday versus Oklahoma, the Jayhawks were up 35-22 by halftime. Kansas hit a 43-33 run in the second and cruised to the win 78-55. Leading scorer Jalen Wilson put up 18 points with five rebounds in the victory.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Over on the Oklahoma State side, they hit a 10-8 run over their first 18 games of the year. The Cowboys are a nice 6-1 in their last seven games with wins over Iowa State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas Tech and Iowa State again.
In the rematch with Iowa State on Saturday, the Cowboys faced a 32-26 halftime deficit. Oklahoma State hit a 38-24 advantage from there and won it 64-56. John-Michael Wright was the leading scorer on 19 points and two rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll take a stab on Oklahoma State here. The Cowboys hot right now; they’re 7-1 in their last eight games (with a lone loss to Texas) and scoring quite well along the way. Oklahoma State has 71 or more points in six of those eight outings. The last time these teams met up on New Year’s Eve, Kansas powered out a 69-67 comeback win at Allen Fieldhouse thanks to a 39-22 second half. The Jayhawks have a combined 166 points in their last two games, so this one could be a high-scoring affair as well. I like a competitive matchup here with Oklahoma State powering out the one-point cover (and maybe the win). Should be a fun one.
