Holy Cross has beaten Dean, Colby-Sawyer and Central Connecticut State so far this year. The losses have come versus Siena, Creighton, Stonehill, Fordham, UIC, Harvard and Quinnipiac otherwise.
In Wednesday’s matchup versus Quinnipiac, the Crusaders trailed 36-35 at the break. Holy Cross couldn’t close the gap and lost 75-71. Leading scorer Gerrale Gates doubled up with 17 points, 11 boards and three assists.
Over on the Northeastern side, they lost to Boston U, Providence, Harvard and Syracuse before their first win over Manhattan. The Huskies have gone 1-2 since then with losses to Princeton and Georgia Tech before a win over Georgia State.
In the Georgia State game last weekend, Northeastern was up 34-17 going into the second half. The Huskies kept the pressure on and ended up with a 66-46 win. Jahmyl Telfort led the team with 20 points and six rebounds.
PICK: I might take a stab on Northeastern here. There’s admittedly not a whole lot to like about this matchup, but it should at least be competitive. The Huskies did a good job defensively against Georgia State in their latest game, but they haven’t been much for scoring this year. Northeastern hasn’t hit 70 points yet this season. As for Holy Cross, they were able to stay with a pretty good Quinnipiac team in their last outing. If the Huskies have their defense working however, I don’t think the Crusaders will post a cover. Should be a fairly close game, though.
