Vermont hit a 6-4 run to start the season, then really hit their proverbial stride. The Catamounts managed a 14-game win streak that started December 10 and lasted to February 12. Vermont’s run was snapped with an OT loss to Hartford.
On Monday in the Hartford game, the Catamounts were down 33-41 by halftime. Vermont surged to force overtime but couldn’t come back and lost 75-74. Ben Shungu led the team on 21 points with 12 rebounds and three assists.
Over on the New Hampshire side, their year began 5-4 overall. The Wildcats were only able to play two games from December 13 to January 19, and it’s been a mixed bag since. The good news is that the Wildcats have won their last pair over Binghamton and UMBC.
In the UMBC game on Monday, the Wildcats were down by one point at the break. New Hampshire hit a 33-26 run from there in a 68-62 victory. Jayden Martinez was the leading scorer on 20 points with three rebounds.
The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 4-0 in New Hampshire’s last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 Wednesday games. Vermont is 5-1 ATS in the last six after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Vermont. The Catamounts are licking their wounds after a tough loss to Hartford in their last game, but shouldn’t have much trouble bouncing back. Vermont has hit 70 or more points in 15 straight games and will likely put up another good total here.
The Catamounts managed an 82-68 home win the last time these teams met up back on January 6. I like another fairly high-scoring affair in this rematch with Vermont powering out a cover.
