The American Eagles and the Loyola MD Greyhounds meet Monday in college basketball action from Reitz Arena. American has won four of their last five games, last beating Army to move to 9-8 overall. American Eagles
The Eagles came out of the gate with a rough 5-7 record over their first 12 games, falling to Villanova, William & Mary, Georgetown, Harvard, St. Francis PA, St. Joseph’s and Virginia Tech. It’s been wins over UMBC, Lehigh, Bucknell and Army in the five games since then.
Back on Saturday versus Army, the Eagles jumped out to a nice 45-30 edge by halftime. American hit a 34-30 run in the second half and cruised to the win 79-60. Leading team scorer Jermaine Ballisager put up 15 points with nine rebounds and two assists in the victory.
Loyola MD Greyhounds
Over on the Greyhounds’ side, they were only able to win one of their first 11 games this year (an OT victory versus Brown). Loyola MD has gone just 1-4 in their last five outings, falling to Saint Joseph’s, Colgate, Lehigh, Army and Boston University (with a win over Army) in that time.
In their game versus Boston U on Saturday, the Greyhounds were up comfortably 33-21 by halftime. Loyola MD was outscored 39-25 from there however and ended up losing 60-58. Both D’Angelo Stines and Milos Ilic posted a team-high 13 points with a combined nine rebounds in the defeat.

I’m staying with American. The Eagles are playing pretty well these days. In their latest win over a struggling Army team, American shot a nice 58.2 percent from the field with 34 rebounds and 21 team assists. During this 4-1 stretch the Eagles are scoring quite well with 68 or more points in every game and 71 or more in each win.
As for Loyola MD, there’s not much to be encouraged by these days. The Greyhounds have scored 71 or more points in two of the last three games, but that’s not particularly the norm this year. American should be in the driver’s seat here if they play well.
