Bucknell went 2-2 over their first four games this year, beating Lebanon Valley and Niagara before losses to Saint Peter’s and Georgia. The Bison would hit a 3-1 run after that, beating Presbyterian, Austin Peay and St. Francis PA in that stretch.
In the Saturday matchup versus NJIT, Bucknell hit a 35-20 advantage by the break. The Bison scored 44 more points in the second half during a 79-63 win. Leading scorer Xander Rice put up 14 points, and Elvin Edmonds added 11 points.
Over on the La Salle side, they went 2-3 over their first five games with wins over Queens NC and Wagner alongside losses to Villanova, Wake Forest and Georgetown. After a win over Binghamton, the Explorers lost to Temple in game seven.
La Salle got back into the win column with a close matchup versus Penn on Saturday. The Explorers needed overtime to get there but eventually came away with an 84-81 victory. Anwar Gill (26 points) and Jhamir Brickus (25 points) led the team.
PICK: I’ll probably take a stab on Bucknell here. This should be an interesting matchup, though. The Bison have been scoring pretty well lately with 79 or more points in three of their last four games. They’re in a good rhythm over their last two games even though the competition hasn’t been top-tier. As for the Explorers, they have generally been competitive in comparable matchups this year, but they’ve also got some erratic performances on the slate. La Salle has been at 65 points or below in four of their last five games. I don’t think they’ll keep a cover pace in this one if Bucknell is playing well.
