Prairie View A&M posted a rough 9-15 record over their first 24 outings of the season. The Panthers finished off the slate with a 4-3 run, beating AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State, Alcorn State and TX Southern. The losses came to Southern U, MS Valley State and Jackson State.
On Saturday versus Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M held a 40-34 halftime edge. The Panthers were outscored 40-38 from there but held on for the 78-74 win. William Douglas put up 27 points with 11 rebounds and five assists to lead the way.
Jackson State Tigers
Over on the Jackson State side, they managed a 7-17 run across their first 24 games. The Tigers closed off the regular season with six wins in seven games over Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, AR-Pine Bluff and MS Valley State.
Back on Saturday versus MS Valley State, the Tigers were up 30-28 going into the second half. Jackson State hit a 38-32 run from there and took the win 68-60. Coltie Young was the team’s top scorer on 15 points with five rebounds.

I’m going to stay with Jackson State in this one. The Tigers seem to have found their groove late in the season. They’re sitting on a 7-1 run right now with 67 or more points scored in six of the seven victories in that time. These teams have met twice already this year, with the home team taking the win in each. Prairie View got the win 59-50 on January 14, and Jackson State managed a victory 61-57 on February 27 in the rematch at Williams Assembly Center. This one’s bound to be another competitive matchup, and I like Jackson State to power out the cover/win.
