The Texas A&M-CC Islanders and the IUPUI Jaguars meet Tuesday in college basketball action from UTSA Convocation Center. Texas A&M-CC is 1-1 so far this year and coming off a loss to Texas A&M. Texas A&M-CC had a relatively easy game against Texas Lutheran University in their first outing of the year. The Islanders turned a 48-23 halftime edge into a 102-64 blowout win. Top scorer was Trevian Tennyson with 18 points in just 18 minutes of work.
In game two against Texas A&M, the Islanders were able to keep pace pretty well in the first half with a 38-34 deficit. Texas A&M-CC couldn’t close from there and eventually lost 86-65. Myles Smith led the team on 16 points, three boards and three assists.
Over on the IUPUI side, they opened the year versus Butler. The Jaguars fell behind 29-19 after one half and ended up losing 56-47. In game two against Evansville, IUPUI lost again. The Jaguars were down 23-19 at the break and stumbled to a 60-40 defeat.
On Monday versus Denver, IUPUI scored just 19 points in the first half and stumbled to a 63-47 defeat. BJ Maxwell was the lead scorer with 14 points and three rebounds. Bobby Harvey added 13 points with six boards as well.
The Jaguars are 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 18-48-1 ATS in their last 67 as a favorite. The under is 17-5 in IUPUI’s last 22 neutral-site games.
Meanwhile, the Islanders are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 neutral-site games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games. The over is 22-8 in the Islanders’ last 30 overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Texas A&M-CC in this one. The Islanders had a nice blowout victory in their opener and didn’t play too badly against Texas A&M in game two. Texas A&M-CC shot just 38.1 percent from the floor with 23.1 percent (6-of-26) on 3-point attempts, but won the rebound battle 37-35 and bagged seven steals. If the Islanders can shoot a little better in this one and keep the intensity up, I think they’ll be fine on a cover.
