The Monmouth Hawks and the Hofstra Pride meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hofstra Arena. Monmouth enters this one at 1-15 overall. The Hawks lost to Drexel in their last game. As for Hofstra, they’re 10-7 following a win over William & Mary on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Monmouth posted their lone win 76-69 over Manhattan on December 4; they’ve had zero luck otherwise. Since then the Hawks have lost to Princeton, Syracuse, Charlotte, Yale, UNC Wilmington, Stony Brook and Drexel in succession.

Matched up against Drexel in their last outing on Saturday, Monmouth was drilled 35-14 in the first half. The Hawks didn’t get much better on a 32-21 second-half run and lost 67-35. Myles Foster led the team on 13 points with nine boards.

Over on the Hofstra side, they went 6-4 over their first 10 games, losing to Saint Mary’s, Middle Tennessee, George Mason and Purdue. The Pride are 4-3 in their last seven with wins over Old Westbury, Delaware, Hampton and William & Mary.

Back on Saturday versos William & Mary, the Pride took a 37-31 lead into the second half. Hofstra posted 38 more points from there and won it 75-62. Both Tyler Thomas and Aaron Estrada put up 20 points apiece to lead the way.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Hofstra. The line’s a little too thick to mess with, though. The Pride have had some hiccups here and there this season, however they’re not playing too badly lately. Hofstra has scored 70 or more points in five of their last six games. Considering the fact that Monmouth hasn’t scored more than 56 points in any of their last five games, 70 points will likely be more than sufficient here. The Hawks are really struggling this year and I don’t think the Pride will have too many issues covering if they play to their capabilities.
