The Delaware Blue Hens and the Hofstra Pride meet Sunday in CAA Tournament college basketball action from Entertainment & Sports Arena. Let’s get into our Delaware vs. Hofstra prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Delaware Blue Hens
The Hens were 12-9 through their first 21 outings this year. Delaware would then hit a 5-1 stretch with a lone loss to Elon during that time. Since then the Hens are 2-3 with losses to Charleston, Drexel and Stony Brook mixed with wins over Northeastern and Hampton.
In the Saturday tournament matchup versus Hampton, Delaware posted a blowout victory. The Hens were up 51-16 by the second half and cruised to an 80-50 result after a 34-29 stretch from there. Leading scorer Gerald Drumgoole put up 17 points with three rebounds along the way.
Hofstra Pride
Over on the Hofstra side, their year began on a shaky 8-9 run. The Pride have lost just three games since January 13, however. Hofstra is 8-2 in their last 10 outings with wins over Stony Brook, Towson, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, Northeastern, Drexel, Elon and UNC Wilmington in that time.
Last weekend versus Charleston, Hofstra fell back into the loss column. The Pride were down 45-36 going into the second half and couldn’t get any closer on a 42-40 run from there in an 87-76 outcome. Leading team scorer Tyler Thomas put up 27 points with four rebounds and two assists.
ANDREW’S FREE DELAWARE VS HOFSTRA PREDICTION
I’ll probably lean toward Hofstra here. The Pride need a good bounce-back effort after some mixed results in their Charleston loss, though. Hofstra shot well in that one (50 percent) but also gave up 49.3 percent on the other side with a 35-25 rebounding deficit and 11 turnovers for 17 Cougars points. Hofstra has scored 69 or more points in seven straight games, though.
In the last meeting between these teams on January 6, the Pride put up a 76-71 home win. Hofstra shot 45.3 percent from the field in that one, but Delaware’s 13 turnovers were their ultimate downfall. I like another close matchup here in a Hofstra win.
