The Hampton Pirates and the High Point Panthers meet in college basketball action from the Bojangles Coliseum on Wednesday.

The Hampton Pirates come into the conference tournament as the #10-seed, finishing with an overall record of 9-18, including a 5-11 mark in conference play after an 88-77 loss to High Point in the season finale. Najee Garvin leads the Pirates in scoring and rebounding with 15.2 PPG and 6.3 RPG while Russell Dean has 14.4 PPG with 4.1 RPG and a team-high 3.9 APG to lead the Pirates in the assist department and to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for Hampton up to this point in the season. As a team, Hampton is averaging 64.3 PPG on 39.9% shooting from the field, 29.8% from three and 69.8% from the foul line while allowing 69 PPG on 41.8% shooting from the field and 28.6% from three this season.

The High Point Panthers will enter the tournament as the #7-seed, finishing the regular season at 13-17, including 7-9 in conference after the season-ending win over Hampton. John-Michael Wright leads High Point in scoring 18.5 PPG and 3.4 APG while Jaden House has 11.8 PPG with 4.2 RPG and Zack Austin has 14.5 PPG with a team-high 8.2 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for High Point up to this point in the season. Bryant Randleman also has a team-high 3.6 APG for the Panthers this season. As a team, High Point is averaging 69.7 PPG on 44.9% shooting from the field, 33.7% from three and 64.8% from the foul line while allowing 69.6 PPG on 43% shooting from the field and 29.8% from three.

Hampton is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. High Point is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400.

I get the case to be made for both sides here, but I’m leaning towards High Point here. Hampton’s had issues with consistency down the stretch, as well as scoring and I’m not sure how much I trust the Pirates to get revenge when they gave up 88 to High Point just a few days ago. I think this is High Point’s game to lose, so give me the Panthers in this one.
