The Cal Baptist Lancers and the Grand Canyon Antelopes meet in college basketball action from the GCU Arena on Saturday night.
The Cal Baptist Lancers come into this one looking to snap a four-game losing skid after a 68-57 loss to New Mexico State last time out. Daniel Akin leads the Lancers in scoring and rebounding with 12.9 PPG and 8.4 RPG while Tre Armstrong has 12.1 PPG. Reed Nottage has 10.6 PPG with 4.4 RPG and Ty Rowell has 10.7 PPG with 3.5 APG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Cal Baptist so far this season. Taran Armstrong also has 9.8 PPG and 5.9 RPG for Cal Baptist this season. As a team, Cal Baptist is averaging 73.9 PPG on 45.4% shooting from the field, 33.1% from three and 69.2% from the foul line while allowing 68.7 PPG on 41.2% shooting from the field and 32.5% from three this season.
The Grand Canyon Antelopes will look to add to their 78-66 win over Seattle in their last game. Jovan Blacksher Jr. leads GCU in scoring and assists with 17.1 PPG and 4.1 APG while Holland Woods has 12.3 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Grand Canyon up to this point in the season. Gabe McGlothan also has 9.9 PPG with a team-high 6.3 RPG to lead Grand Canyon on the glass this season. As a team, Grand Canyon is averaging 68.9 PPG on 43.9% shooting from the field, 35.1% from three and 65.9% from the foul line while allowing 58.1 PPG on 38.6% shooting from the field and 26.1% from three this season.
Cal Baptist is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games following an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 road games. Grand Canyon is 20-6 ATS in their last 26 home games and 27-13 ATS in their last 40 games overall while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games as a home favorite.
I get the case to be made either way here, but I think my stronger play is going to be on the under. Grand Canyon has a fantastic defense and a lot of times that’s their weapon of choise as we have seen GCU’s offense dry up a fair bit. Cal Baptist isn’t a world-beater by any means either and I think this could be a first to 65 wins kind of game.
