Georgia State vs Southern Mississippi Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/4/23

The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and the Georgia State Panthers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Georgia State Convocation Center. Southern Miss is fresh off a Thursday game versus Troy. In that one the Eagles managed a nine-point win. As for Georgia State, they played Georgia Southern in their last game. Southern Miss Golden Eagles 

Southern Miss came out of the gate with a 13-3 run this year, losing to only Northwestern State, UNLV and Louisiana. The Eagles went 6-1 over the next seven with wins over LA-Monroe, Arkansas State, South Alabama, James Madison, Arkansas State and Texas State. 

Matched up against Troy on Thursday, the Eagles took a 30-23 edge into the locker room. Southern Miss hit a 44-42 run in the second for a 74-65 win. 

Georgia State Panthers 

Over on the Georgia State side, they started out the year at .500 with an 8-8 run through 16 games. The Panthers would hit a tough 1-5 stretch after that, losing to Troy, Old Dominion, Georgia Southern, App State and Marshall. 

In their Thursday rematch against Georgia Southern, Georgia State was down 27-25 going into the second half. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 39-33 from there for a 64-60 win. Brenden Tucker put up 20 points in the victory.

I’m going to stay with Southern Miss. The Eagles are on a nice six-game win streak right now, posting 67 or more points in each of those outings. Southern Miss didn’t have a ton of trouble with a decent Troy team in their last game, either. As for Georgia State, they stopped a four-game losing streak with their win over Georgia Southern. The Panthers have been at 65 points or fewer for five straight outings however, so it’s going to be tough for them to keep up with Southern Miss if the Eagles get going.
